Kuala Lumpur-based ITMAX System Bhd has secured a significant RM36 million contract from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The contract involves the implementation of an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled closed-circuit television (CCTV) system at cross-border entry and exit points throughout Peninsular Malaysia. The ITMAX AI Border Surveillance contract was confirmed on 17 December 2025. It marks a strategic move to strengthen national border security and operational monitoring under federal digital infrastructure initiatives.

Importantly, the deployment covers multiple locations. These include key borders adjacent to Selangor and neighbouring states with high traffic volumes. As a result, the project addresses public safety concerns linked to transit and immigration processes.

According to a Bursa Malaysia filing dated 17 December, ITMAX accepted the Ministry of Home Affairs’ letter of acceptance issued on 12 December 2025. The agreement covers the installation and rental of the CCTV system under a monthly subscription model. The rental period spans 36 months, from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2029.

Prior to this, the project includes a five-month installation phase beginning on 1 February 2026. After completion, the rental phase will commence. Meanwhile, the surveillance system is planned for deployment at all major immigration checkpoints across Peninsular Malaysia. These include locations near Seri Kembangan, Batu Caves, and other border areas identified for heightened monitoring. Consequently, the initiative aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and enhanced safety.

ITMAX Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer William Tan Wei Lun acknowledged the initiative as a milestone project. He noted its contribution to Malaysia’s ongoing digital infrastructure development. According to official statements, the AI-powered CCTV system will enhance border security. It will do so by providing advanced real-time video analytics and monitoring capabilities.

In addition, the system will assist the Immigration Department in managing traffic flows and detecting irregularities. It will also support coordination with enforcement agencies such as the police and border patrol units. Preliminary reviews indicate that the system aligns with government safety objectives. As a result, it may help reduce delays and potential incidents at transit points. The Home Ministry further noted that the infrastructure supports evolving security needs and technological upgrades within the immigration sector.

Overall, these trends underscore the sector’s importance in supporting national security and technological advancement.
